In the summer of 2021, ACAN planted its first native plant pollinator beds in the Altona Community Garden with a vision for the establishment of “Growing a Butterflyway”, a David Suzuki project that has spread to communities across Canada.
Altona is making efforts to improve active transportation in town.

ACAN operates a community garden in the NW section of town between the curling rink and Blue Sky on behalf of the Town of Altona. A Task Force of three or four persons appointed by ACAN is responsible for managing all aspects of the garden. 2023 will be the sixth year that ACAN is involved with this garden.
Since the fall of 2019 the town of Altona has offered year round composting. ACAN helped push this project forward through community engagement, advocacy, research, and education. This is a great example of how working with the town ACAN can make a positive impact on the community.

In the summer of 2024, ACAN broke ground on the starting phases of the Community Orchard.
This vision started with the expansion and building of the Pavillion in the heart of the Community Garden.
The final phase of that project was to establish an orchard to complement the garden, filling the space with life and food for our community.
